Cleanups

There are cleanups, and there are Green Nudge cleanups.

We redefine cleanups by turning them into immersive experiences with meaningful outcomes.

Most importantly, we practice what we preach. All our equipment are reusable and we actively avoid disposables. After all, we are here to remove trash, not create more of it.

Huat Huat Community Cleanup

As part of Green Nudge’s commitment to reach out to the community, we carried out a community cleanup during the start of 2022 and invited members of public to join in the session at Sembawang Beach. Despite it being the Lunar New Year period, we managed to max out our participation numbers and collected nearly 300 kg of marine debris in less than 2 hours.

Uniqlo Singapore

In 2021, Uniqlo reached out to us to explore a volunteering opportunity to engage its employees and family members in Singapore. Based on their requirements, we proposed and implemented a coastal cleanup that helped to bring their employees together in a safe and meaningful manner. In the 3 hour session, we managed to pick up nearly 700 kg of marine debris.

Testimonial

Green Nudge Avatar.

"The Cleanup Toolkit is pretty much everything you'd need for a cleanup, without the hassle of coming up with a checklist. They've packed just about everything such that you could do the cleanup on the very same day! The point-of-contact was also very responsive and accommodating despite me making appointments on very short notice!"

"The kit was great! Had everything you’ll need for a general beach cleanup. Items were also in good condition and the guide that came along with it was helpful :) Can’t wait to rent again for future cleanups!"

"The cleanup was very interesting. I learned that trash may not necessarily come from the user of the area, but instead, from neighbouring countries and also villages. I also love how I could find some sea creatures during the cleanup :)"

"The toolkit has everything you need, including a mini first aid kit for scrapes and cuts. Recommended for an educational and meaningful day out."

Frequently Asked Questions

Cleanups - Basic Package (i.e. Toolkit Rental)

Will you provide advice for us on where we can carry out our cleanup so that we will be able to find a decent amount of trash when we are there?

Unfortunately we are unable to provide a specific area for you to clean as the cleanup locations vary depending on tide timings as well as monsoon seasons. However, we do provide a guide as part of the toolkit rental for you to plan your session.

As a general guide, consider areas including Sembawang Park, Pasir Ris Park and Changi Beach Park during January to June, and East Coast Park during June to September for coastal cleanups.

For inland cleanups, please consider holding them in the morning where more trash is likely to be found. Refer to this post that serves as a simple guide to inland cleanups. Here are also some tips for you to organise your own cleanup!

Where do I bring the trash after my own cleanup session?

Simply tie up the trash bags and place them in or around the trash bins that you see around the area. These will be collected by the waste management companies to be sent for disposal. Remember to tie up the bags to prevent wildlife from rummaging through the items for food.

Are the kits suitable for all kinds of cleanup? (Inland/Beach)

To ensure that the toolkits are more suited for the different cleanups, we have an inland cleanup toolkit and a coastal cleanup toolkit.

For the delivery options, are you able to deliver the items to us at our own cleanup venue itself?

Yes! Let us know your potential cleanup location and we can also help to deliver them to you on the day of cleanup for added convenience.

Activities

Where does the trash go after the clean up? How is the trash processed?

Given the expected large amount of trash, we work with waste management companies to collect these trash once we have completed the cleanup. The trash will then be collected and sent for disposal as part of the regular waste management process. As most of the trash items are not in good condition for recycling, items collected are properly disposed through our waste management partners.

In the event that it rains, what will be the next course of action?

If it is expected to rain before the session, we will update you of the suggested next course of action, including delaying the starting time.

If it rains heavily during the activity, participants will be asked to take shelter at pre-identified spots. In the unfortunate event of a heavy rain, we will postpone the activity and make arrangements for the next suitable date.

Is paying you for activities necessary or justifiable when there are alternatives out there that are completely free of charge?

As a social enterprise, there are manpower and resource costs in conducting coastal cleanups, especially in hard to reach areas where the trash situation is not as ideal. To ensure that we can continue our operations in a sustainable manner, we seek your understanding that we provide our engagements for a fee.

If my organisation does not meet the minimum requirement of 20 pax, can we still engage you?

Yes! We have in the past been able to work with groups of less than 20 pax subject to their programme and budget.

A Sustainable Stride: UOB Heartbeat Run

For several years, we’ve supported UOB’s Heartbeat Run by weaving sustainability into the event. At each run, our volunteers set up Green Corners to guide participants on proper recycling and collect banana peels — helping to manage waste responsibly. Collected items were diverted from landfills and either sent to community gardens for composting or shared with other green partners, giving new life to what would otherwise be discarded. Over time, these efforts have made sustainability a regular part of UOB’s mass events. Beyond the Heartbeat Run, we continue working closely with UOB to strengthen sustainability across the organisation — from staff engagement to other green initiatives.

From Shoreline to Something New: LG Electronics Cleanup & Plastic Upcycling Workshop

Cleanups are great, but what if we could take it a step further? Nearly 150 LG staff kicked off a coastal cleanup, removing an impressive 950kg of trash from the shoreline. Instead of letting the collected plastic bottle caps go to waste, they returned for a follow-up upcycling workshop, transforming the caps into practical items. From cleanup to creation, participants experienced the full cycle, seeing firsthand how waste can be transformed rather than discarded.

Uplifting Young Minds: Capgemini x The SBL Vision Family Service Centre newPlastics Workshop

As part of Capgemini Singapore’s Impact Together month, we teamed up to bring a hands-on plastic recycling workshop for young beneficiaries at SBL Vision Family Service Centre. With guidance from Capgemini volunteers, children learnt about single-use plastics and recycling while creating keychains, carabiners, and DIY art pieces from shredded plastics. For many, it was a refreshing chance to learn, create, and connect with caring volunteers. The session showed that sustainability is as much about uplifting others as it is about reducing waste — and that learning can be both meaningful and fun.

We don't just pick up trash, we are forming meaningful experiences

Let's create the experience together.
